Urban Foundry is thrilled to welcome artist Hilary Powell of ‘Bank Job’ to Swansea to talk at our next 51.6 event on Wednesday 20th November.
Together with film maker Dan Edelstyn and a team from their local community, artist Hilary Powell is working on a ‘Bank Job’ – a hack and heist on the financial system through participatory action, art and feature film production.
They operate out of HSCB (Hoe Street Central Bank) Walthamstow, London and have printed their own art/’cash’ to raise the money to support local causes and cancel £1.2 million of local debt. The Bank has become a hub of economic education and action and they have now launched a campaign to secure the building as a community owned asset in order to transform it into the Power Bank, home to ‘Walthamstow People’s Power.’ This is the next step in this work that reconfigures a community’s relationship to capital, creating a platform to investigate and tackle urgent economic, philosophical and social issues of our time through anarchic, joyful cultural production.
