About the project
Way of Life was a pilot programme to assess what approaches are effective in combatting childhood obesity. 14 projects were funded across Wales, with budgets between £250,000 and £500,000. All projects were partnerships, headed by Local Authorities, Local Health Boards or voluntary sector organisations. The projects were very much an experiment to assess whether their methods of intervention were successful.
Activities carried out
We led the support contract for the Way of Life programme in Wales working with Hall Aitken Associates. We supported grant recipients to deliver better projects, including assisting them with self-evaluation support working with a target beneficiary group of children under-12. We also assisted with the external evaluation. In addition, we delivered several conferences for projects, a support website and e-newsletters, a series of tools and guidance notes, and a variety of training and workshops.
Results of our work
Our support has assisted projects to self-evaluate, including delivery of the Most Significant Change tool and collation and analysis of quantitative data from questionnaires. We have also provided guidance on use of focus groups and interviewing.
